Shaker Desk Paul Mullen

shaker-desk-maine-furniture-paul-mullen This Shaker Desk is a custom piece.  When I drew this cherry desk for my client, I really liked the idea of concave and convex curves in the same piece, but didn't realize how much it was going to complicate the building process. As a result, this was a fun piece to build, but very challenging. The front of the desk features sequentially cut convex panels, carved to shape inside and outside, and then hand raised. The back, or drawer side of the case features concave drawer faces, also sequentially cut. On the left side, there are two box drawers, one of which has a lock for secure storage. In the center, there is a shallow paper drawer with a pencil tray and on the right is a file drawer. Pinned mortise and tenon joinery, with floating panels, tapered legs and hand cut dovetails result in an elegant desk.
