Spalted Maple Bowl

furniture-turning-mainefurniture-ann-prescott-spalted-maple-bowl Welcome. I am a woodturner living in Bath, Maine. I make functional and decorative objects on a lathe: bowls, goblets, gift items, and custom orders. I also teach at a local school called The Woodturning School.
Making useful attractive things from wood is truly a pleasurable experience. I love what I do and put that care and attention into everything I make.
I work in a small studio using locally available woods --  maple, cherry, apple and walnut --  as well as more exotic woods. My approach is to connect with each piece of wood to discover how it wants to be revealed. You will always find a reminder of the tree in the work (the grain, a knot, or other mark of nature). You can tell the story of the tree by what remains in the bowl. Mostly I work with already fallen trees. Trees destined to be discarded or burned have a chance for new life.
My work is food-safe (or it will be labeled if it is not). I hope you enjoy these objects as much as I enjoy making them.
