Cabinetmaker

I HAVE BEEN DESIGNING AND BUILDING kitchen cabinetry for thirty years. Usually, clients come to me with a general idea of what they envision. We then work collaboratively to develop a design that complements or blends with the home’s architecture and furnishings, yet still provides a convenient, comfortable, and efficient space based on the clients’ needs and lifestyle.

A set of drawings is then prepared (I still draft with a pencil), and, from them, a cost estimate and a timeline are developed. Subsequent meetings are planned to refine the design and incorporate any new ideas. Often, these changes can be taken care of via e-mail. Once the final design is agreed on, final measurements can be taken, and construction can begin. Modifications are not unusual during construction and can, most often, be easily accommodated. A four-to-six-week period is usual for construction and I encourage clients to visit the shop at any time. I prefer to install my own work, thereby insuring control over the quality of the finished product.

I use the highest quality lumber available for all my cabinetry. Most is cut locally from sustainably managed woodlots and sawn and dried at small family-owned mills close at hand. Our native cherry is especially beautiful. Trees harvested locally will often have unique patterns of color and grain that I use to advantage.
